WMS, Canada’s Woodworking Event, Opens TomorrowTORONTO -- The two-year countdown is over. The Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS), Canada’s largest woodworking event, begins its three day run at the Direct Energy Centre at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, and continues through Saturday, October 29.

The show features a  comprehensive assortment of woodworking machinery, supplies and services plus the most comprehensive education conference in the biennial show’s history. The three-day event will mark the Canadian debut of Wood Tech Summit, including a presentation highlighting Ligna Hannover, the world’s largest woodworking machinery show. 

WMS, Canada’s Woodworking Event, Opens TomorrowWMS will feature displays of woodworking products manufactured all over the world, including machinery and supplies that had their first world showing this spring at Ligna and interzum, as well as the AWFS Fair in Las Vegas. The show, which opens each day at 10 a.m. will include demonstrations of machinery for fabricating solid wood and panel products, plus finishing equipment, software, cutting tools, software, dust collection and more. On the supply side, woodworking attendees will be able to check out hinges, slides, wood components, TFM panels, finishing materials, adhesives and much more.

An added highlight of the expo is the presence of more than 30 companies exhibiting at WMS for the first time. Several of them are participating in the new U.S. Technology Pavilion hosted by the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA).

39 WMS Conference Sessions
WMS, Canada’s Woodworking Event, Opens TomorrowExperts on 18 distinct topics will present at the expanded WMS Conference. Many of these topics will be repeated on multiple days to give woodworkers an opportunity to attend the sessions of greatest interest and potential for helping them improve quality, lower costs or break into new markets.

Among the conference supporters are the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) at the University of British Columbia, the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC), the Wood Manufacturing Council (WMC)  and Conestoga College.

Through special arrangement with Woodworking Network, representatives of the Association of Closet and Storage Professionals and the Cabinet Makers Association will present sessions on cost estimating, marketing and diversifying into home organization products.

Each conference session is 60 minutes long, except the CMA’s “Essentials of Cost Estimating,” which runs 90 minutes. All sessions are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

These classroom programs are being augmented by Wood Tech Summit, comprised of interactive discussions of  technologies right on the show floor. A different Wood Tech Summit topic will be presented each day:

  • Software Trends & Integration, 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27;
  • LIGNA Hannover, Technology for Today & Tomorrow, 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28; and;
  • Digital Marketing: What Are the Best Practices? 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
