FEDERAL WAY, WA-The Weyerhaeuser Community Fund is donating $500,000 to help tsunami and earthquake victims on Japan's Honshu Island through the Red Cross. Weyerhaeuser says its businesses are now planning with customers for longer-term recovery support as rebuilding begins.

Weyerhaeuser says 10 percent of its sales are to Japan, including logs, lumber, wood chips and packaging. CEO Dan Fulton says Weyerhaeuser's relationship to Japan began when it started selling lumber there in 1923 following the Great Kanto earthquake that devastated Tokyo and Yokohama.

Wood products demand for Japan's rebuilding effort is expected to mushroom, as the country gets its rebuilding efforts off the ground. Manufactured home company Viceroy says it will help fulfill an order for 30,000 homes for Japan.
