Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. has announced that it will cease operations at the Webb Particleboard plant in Galax, Virginia, and all Webb employees will be transferred to Vaughan-Bassett, according to a report in the Galax Gazette.

Wyatt Bassett, chief executive officer of Vaughan-Bassett, said in a statement that demand for particleboard has decreased over the years to the point where they are not competitive. The plant was to fulfill existing orders for several weeks, and employees will transfer to Vaughan-Bassett’s furniture operations.

Vaughan-Bassett manufactures all of its bedroom furniture in Virginia and North Carolina, and according to the company, it is now the largest manufacturer of wooden adult bedroom furniture in the United States. Most of the company’s furniture consists of wood solids and wood veneers grown and is harvested near their plants in the Southeast.
