ARCHBOLD, Ohio — Tipover restraint traps for eight separate Sauder dressers and 4-drawer chest models distributed by Sauder Woodworking and manufactured by Lucky Wood Manufacturing in Malaysia are being recalled in both the U.S. and Canada after it was discovered that the straps might fail.
The company reported that 160 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 15,805 units were sold in the United States. The affected products were sold from July 2020 to December 2024. No injuries have been reported.
It is not yet known why the straps might fail, but this is not the first recall of strap kits. In January 2024, millions of plastic tip-over restraint kits manufactured by New Age Industries were recalled. The plastic furniture restraints were found to become brittle or break over time, allowing the furniture to detach from the wall and create a possible tipover and/or entrapment hazard for a child that is climbing or playing on the furniture. Serious injury or death can occur.
The dressers were sold at Cook Brothers, Homemakers Furniture Plaza, and Menards stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Best Buy.com, CYMAX.com, Home Depot.com, Menards.com, Sauder.com, Target.com, Urbanoutfitters.com, Walmart.com, and Wayfair.com and other websites from July 2020 through December 2024 for between $200 and $335.
Consumers were encouraged to stop using the recalled products and contact Sauder Woodworking Company to receive a free replacement tipover restraint kit. Sauder can be reached by phone at 866-218-8312, from 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or online at Sauder.com.
