Associated Hardwoods expects 15 to 20 percent increase in material yield within the next six months with a new optimizing system.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Associated Hardwoods, a family-owned and operated forest management manufacturing company, implemented new optimizing system to improve its plywood-cutting process.

Plataine provides Industrial IoT and AI-based optimization solutions for advanced manufacturing. The company announced that its WoodOptimizer system allows Associated Hardwoods to create cut plans automatically based on work orders, which eliminates manual input and improves a make-to-order production strategy.

Associated Hardwoods said they expect a 15 to 20 percent material yield increase within the next six months.

“Plataine’s WoodOptimizer has helped us to automate our plywood production processes, making them more efficient and cost-effective,” said Rick Jordan, president of Associated Hardwoods. “With this solution, we can optimize plywood sheets for the best possible value while significantly reducing waste, resulting in higher yields and improved profitability. Plataine’s professional services engineer performed the initial installation remotely and then arrived on-site for several days to complete the installation and provide training for the programmers and operators.”

“We are proud to have been selected by Associated Hardwoods to provide our solutions and experience in this field, helping them achieve their goals of improving efficiency, reducing waste and increasing profitability,” said Clay Bolick, vice president of operations at Plataine.
