SCOTTSDALE, AZ — At its annual spring meeting, the Composite Panel Assn. recognized U.S. and Canadian member plants for their exemplary 2010 safety records.
Twelve plants have earned Safety Achievement awards for achieving an incident rate less than 50 percent of the industry average, over the past three years. They are: CMI/CraftMaster (Towanda, PA); Flakeboard (Albany, OR); Georgia-Pacific (Monticello, GA, and Phillips, WI); Plummer (Post Falls, ID); Roseburg (Russellville, SC); SierraPine (Martell, CA, and Springfield, OR); Del-Tin Fiber (El Dorado, AR); Temple-Inland (Diboll, TX); and Louisiana Pacific (Roaring River, NC, and East River, NS).
The Safety Improvement Trophy was given to SierraPine’s Springfield, OR, facility. Also recognized for its long-term improvement in safety over the last three years was Temple-Inland’s Mt. Jewett, PA, facility.
SierraPine’s Springfield, OR, facility also earned a Long-Term Safety Award for 2010. Joining them for best record over the last three years was Georgia-Pacific in Monticello, GA.
The Annual Safety Award for the best record among large plants went to Georgia-Pacific in Monticello, GA. Georgia-Pacific in Phillips, WI, and Plummer Forest Products in Post Falls, ID, shared the award for best record among small plants. The CPA said all three had zero lost time incidents.
Louisiana-Pacific’s Roaring River facility earned the Safety Innovation Award for its proactive program to improve safety for workers.

The Safety Improvement Trophy is awarded to a plant that showed not only the greatest improvement, but had a safety record better than the industry average over the last three years.
The Annual Safety Award recognizes the plants with the best safety record for the year.
The Safety Innovation Award recognizes a mill’s proactive safety program, aimed at improving worker safety.
