Most viewed stories in wood industry news this week included a number of big business deals: Masonite, which has fed its growth with a steady diet of acquisitions in the past two years, added wood door manufacturer BirchwoodBest.
Casegoods manufacturer Case Systems acquired Canada's CiF Lab Casework Solutions, the whole transaction a joint venture with Canada's Northeast Interior Systems. Music and education wood furnitures maker Wenger drew attention with news of its new CEO, Christopher Simpson, a former Pella Windows VP; and the news of an August acquisition.
Pfleiderer said in its financial report that it is isolating on its balance sheet the results of its North American units, which include Pergo and Uniboard, identifying them as discontinued operations in anticipation of an eventual sale.
But drawing the most attention was an item about an ancient Sequoia, 1,500 years old, that fell across a road in a California park. If a tree falls in the forest will anyone care?
