Law360.com reports that La-Z-Boy is being sued for allegedly falsely labeling product prices on its Los Angeles-based subsidiary Joybird's website as discounts from the e-commerce retailer and upholstered furniture maker's original listed price points.
In a putative class action, named plaintiff Jeffrey Jacobs alleged that La-Z-Boy misled consumers by fabricating the original price before reducing the cost of the item.
The company is an FDMC 300 listed company, ranking #14 with $1.69 billion in sales.
In January, Furniture Today reported that Stitch Inds., which does business as Joybird, had been sued in Los Angeles court for false reference pricing.
In the proposed class-action suit, a plaintiff alleged false advertising and intentional and negligent representation, accusing Stitch of offering discounts that are “pervasive and creating the false impression that its regular prices are higher than they are."
According to the the retail publication, the plaintiff spent thousands of dollars in September 2021 on an ottoman, sectional and sofa through Joybird’s website, believing she was getting a steep discount and that she only had a short amount of time to make a decision.
