AUSTIN, Texas -- Centex Decks completed a large poolside decking project for a family in West Austin, according to Centex principal Caleb Wheeler.

After the new owners purchased the house, they began renovating it from the inside out. The house had been on the market for a while and needed serious updates, including the deck around the pool, which was old treated pine that had warped, cupped, and become unsafe to walk on. The homeowners researched potential decking products and enlisted Caleb Wheeler of Centex Decks as the builder.

In their research, the homeowners and Wheeler chose Kebony, a modified wood that recently had been introduced to the Austin market. The manufacturer takes a traditional FSC-Certified softwood and uses natural chemicals and heat to modify its cellular structure and stability.

Kebony will reportedly take on a natural gray patina over time like hardwoods, without the warping and cupping of a treated pine.

The deck, with steps that abut the rear of the home, wraps entirely around the pool and spa, and is constructed entirely of Kebony modified wood, which shares performance characteristics with Ipe. See https://kebony.com/en/content/technology
