Kartell Chairs Rock with Lenny Kravitz, Philippe Starck DesignsMILAN —Rock music and acting icon Lenny Kravitz’s furniture collaboration with designer Philippe Starck for Kartell’s redesigned Mademoiselle armchairs hit a high note with attendees at the 2012 Milan Furniture Fair, according to news reports. The residential furniture fair runs through April 22.

For “Kartell Goes Rock,” a collection of six Mademoiselle armchairs, the Kravitz Design team gave a new twist to Starck’s design through the use of new fabrics “combining exotic finishes of python, fur, leather and woven materials, the end result reflecting the wild spirit of the artists,” the furniture company said in a published release.

The Kravitz Design take on the Mademoiselle chair is haute couture meets rock and roll.”

Added Starck, “An environment is made of materiality; wood, stone, metal ... but also made of immateriality such as light, temperature, memories and also sounds and music. Lenny proved at the highest level he could create an entire musical universe. It is now time for him to translate the magic of his music into materiality, into chairs, into lamps ... A new experience for Lenny, a new territory for us.”

Based in New York, Kravitz Design Inc. was founded in 2003. According to a release, this is the first furniture design collaboration for the company, which specializes in residential and commercial design work along with product branding. Previous projects include the Florida Room lounge at the Delano for Morgans Hotel Group, the recording studio in Miami Beach’s Setai Resort & Residences, Tropicalismo, Miami’s Paramount Bay condominium project and collaboration with Swarovski.
