- Harney Woodworking has closed, says the Caroll County Times. Harney operated  a 45,000 square foot manufacturing center, producing high-end architectural millwork for a wide range of commercial and institutional clients in Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD and surrounding areas, some of them running into multi-million dollar efforts, many of them historic restorations.

Harney Woodworking produced these multi-faceted paneled walls three stories high by 71 feet long. The Falls Church, VA project was to be certified to AWI-QCP standards.

Among the major projects handled in its wide-ranging projects portfolio were four major retirement centers, each more than $1 million in scope, in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, the largest a $2.4 million project for Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, PA.

Other projects in Harney's portfolio were seven bank locations, including a $214,000 millwork project for multiple locations of Westminster Union Bank; thirteen medical centers including an $870,000 project for Carroll County General Hospital; five U.S. Post Offices including a $130,000 Georgetown, VA post office; and multiple locations for nationally branded restaurants chains, including 35 Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery - $770,000 project; 15 Zi Pani restaurants - a $290,000 contract; and Sbarro’s restaurants throughout the world, handling $ 165,000 of build outs for the chain located in airports.

Certified by the Architectural Woodwork Institute in multiple disciplines, Cole recounts his history at the Harney Woodworking website: he founded the company in 1978 as a sole proprietorship producing high-end cabinetry for the Baltimore, MD area from a two-story frame building. In 1989 he built a 13,000 square foot operation; in 2005 the company opened a 30,000 square foot plant, ultimately growing to 39,000 square feet to handle projects that were shipped and installed in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
