GERMANY - Germany saw a growth rate of 16 percent of exports of planed wood products in the first quarter. In the second quarter, exports rose 21 percent. And in the third quarter, exports were up a whopping 59 percent to 14.8 million cubic feet.
Buyers outside of Europe were mostly responsible for the increases. Exports to the U.S. were nearly eight times higher than last year's third quarter. Japan also sharply increased its German exports, tripling its intake to nearly 600,000 cubed feet. Total exports to countries outside of Europe rose 166 percent.
Exports to countries within Europe fell 11 percent, however, with a sharp decline to England. Although growth was registered in exports to Austria (+9%), France (+18%), and the Netherlands (+7%), it was not enough to compensate for the reductions in exports to the UK.
