-- Furniture by Dovetail says Jonas Geiger has purchased a majority interest in the company, a  manufacturer of hand-crafted wood furniture founded in 1988 by Robert and Annette Loring.

Loring will continue as VP sales and minority owner with Geiger Family LLC, an investment firm with holdings in real estate, metal product manufacturing and organic farming.

Geiger, who will serve as president of Furniture by Dovetail, worked in his family's Toronto contract furniture business, the legendary Geiger International, Atlanta, until it was acquired by Herman Miller in 1999. (The acquisition was completed for $5 million in cash and 1,312,187 shares of Herman Miller Inc., stock.)

Of the new corporate structure, "It has provided the capital we need to grow strategically while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service," says Robert Loring.

Geiger says he plans to expand the business "to a world-class organization not only in design but also in quality, service and environmental responsibility."

Based in Holden, MA, Furniture by Dovetail designs and manufactures wood furniture for clients in the residential, corporate and academic markets. Founded in 1988, the company says its clients value "classic looks that represent their unique style," and withstand the demands of everyday use. Furniture by Dovetail says it uses premium selected woods, hand-cut joints, natural oil finishes, and hand-rubbed finishes in cherry, mahogany and other wood species, with mortise and tenon joints and corner blocks.
