The date of Amazon's annual Prime Day event have been confirmed for October 13-14. The online retail behemoth is investing an additional $100 million in this year's event, which it hails as the biggest global shopping event ever.

“In the midst of an unprecedented year, we’re committed to making this the most successful Prime Day ever for our small businesses and excited for Prime members worldwide to discover new ways to support local entrepreneurs,” said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer. “This year’s Prime Day is the perfect opportunity for Prime members to get their holiday shopping done early from the comfort of their homes.”

Furniture retailers have historically taken advantage of the event, offering big discounts. This year, brands including Lane Home Furnishings, Walker Edison, Nathan James, and Modway will offer 20 percent discounts. More should be announced soon.

Amazon has offered major discounts on its own furniture lines - Rivet and Stone & Beam - in previous years. Amazon launched its lines in 2017, rattling the industry.

Furniture is one of the fastest growing retail categories on Amazon, according to a report by Nathan Rigby for One Click Retail.

Prime Day is available to Prime members only and is set to begin midnight pacific time on October 13. Amazon is in preparation-mode, recently announcing plans to hire 100,000 full-time and part-time jobs in fulfillment centers across North America, in addition to opening 100 new operations buildings.
