HIGH POINT, NC -- Residential furniture orders increased 1% in December compared to the same period in 2009, according to Smith Leonard, a consulting and accountant firm specializing in the furniture industry.
Smith Leonard noted that this reversed the trend of decreases in orders stemming back to September.
Year-to-date, new orders were up 4% for the year, compared to a 13% decline reported for 2009 compared to 2008. For the year, approximately 52 percent of the survey participants reported increased orders.
In addition, Smith Leonard noted that shipments in December were 3% greater than December 2009. For the year, shipments were up 7% over 2009.
