- Adams Bros. Cabinetry, Inc., a Punta Gorda, FL architectural millwork firm doing business as the Adams Group, will relocate to North Port, FL. The 62-employee woodworking firm, founded in 1978, has outgrown its current location.
The City of North Port, Sarasota County, and the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County collaborated to help fund the relocation. Adams Group agreed to hire North Port residents for at least 50 percent of all newly created and replacement jobs. Adams Group expects to add 40 new positions over five years, at an average wage of $45,627 annually.
Adams Group will invest $2.4 million has bought and is renovating an existing building. It will install customized, state-of-the-art machinery, office, and computer equipment valued at $2.2 million.
To sweeten the deal, the City of North Port tcontributed $200,000 to the project and Sarasota County contributed $300,000.
An economic impact analysis by DataSource of Austin, TX projects the city will recoup its investment in 3.3 years. performed for this project calculated that the City will recoup its investment in 3.3 years.
Adams Group began business in Dayton, OH as a manufacturer and installer of interior architectural casework. It incorporated in the state of Florida in1984, focusing on residential and small commercial projects. By the early 1990 Adams Group had migrated exclusively to providing only commercial services for local general contractors. Initial commercial work included the the Charlotte County Vocational Center and the Palm Island Resort in southwest Florida..
Adams Group says its client base extends north to Virginia and west to Texas. It says its existing 30,000 square foot plant holds over $1 million in equipment, which includes a Holzma Opti-Lift, two Holzma panel saws, a Homag edgebander, two Weeke CNC machining centers, a Homag nested based router, and a Cefla finishing system. In addition to millwork, Adams Group manufactures solid surface countertops, with business growing from $4 million in 2000 to over $15 million in 2008.
