Accsys Technologies Looks to Expand Modified MDF MarketLONDON – Accsys Technologies PLC is pushing the envelope on the same technology used in its Accoya wood to penetrate new markets for MDF and other wood composite panels.

Accys is taking the necessary steps to enter into a 50.50 joint venture agreement with INEOS, a global manufacturer of chemicals, to develop and commercialize Tricoya wood elements technology for use in MDF, particleboard and wood plastic composites for exterior and other non-traditional use, particularly those in which moisture resistance is key.

Accsys Technologies Looks to Expand Modified MDF MarketWhen the deal is consummated, INEOS will add significant resources, licensing and product development expertise and global reach to increase Tricoya’s penetration into the growing worldwide panel wood products market. Medite Europe Ltd. introduced the first Tricoya MDF panel last year. End uses touted by Medite for its Tricoya MDF include specialty furniture such as lockers, cubicles, chairs and tables; façade cladding/siding; window and door component;, wet interiors including bathrooms and wall linings in swimming pools; and signage. Accsys said Tricoya is based on the same proprietary acetylation technology used to create Accoya wood. The process modifies wood's properties by permanently replacing free hydroxyls within the wood with stable acetyl groups that will not bond with water.The result is a dimensionally strong and stable wood product that is resistant to moisture, funal decay and insect attack.

Paul Clegg, CEO of Accsys Technologies, said,  “The investment by both companies will greatly facilitate the roll-out of new license agreements and support long-term revenue growth.”

Accoya wood made its North American debut at the 2010 International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta.
