DALLAS, TEXAS – Accoya® wood, the world’s leading high-technology wood is making its IWF debut in Atlanta later this month. Accoya wood, unlike other modified wood, is transformed to the core and enables woodworkers to machine, coat and glue like normal wood, yet provides durability and dimensional stability that matches or exceeds even that of tropical hardwoods.
Manufactured by Accsys Technologies, Accoya wood involves a proprietary acetylation technology studied by scientists around the world for more than 80 years. The process alters the wood’s reaction with water by permanently replacing free hydroxyls within the wood with stable acetyl groups that will not bond with water. Acetyl groups are naturally present in all wood species, which means that nothing toxic is added into the wood. The altered cell structure of the wood makes it unrecognizable to insects as food, as well as increasing its strength and stability.
Accoya wood is made from sustainably-grown sources and offers extraordinary performance advantages where exposure to the elements is a concern, including decking and exterior furniture and cabinetry, windows, doors, cladding and structural-components.
“Accoya is the world’s most stable wood, resulting in a significant reduction in cup, bow, twist and cracks --making it perfect for wood working applications in any climate,” said Lisa Ayala, sales manager – North America. “We warrant Accoya wood for 50 years in exterior above-ground use and 25 years in-ground,” Ayala added.
Accoya is available throughout North America through a network of independent distributors. For more information about Accoya wood visit www.accoya.com.
