WASHINGTON - The U.S. Forest Service has approximately 1,200 inter-agency wildfire suppression and incident management personnel to assist in the clean up of havoc wreaked by Hurricane Sandy in four northeast states last week.

More than 50 incident management teams and wildfire suppression crews have been dispatched to join with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia. The wildfire crews, including about a dozen two-man chainsaw crews, are clearing downed trees, assisting at FEMA facilities and providing communications support to local emergency response agencies.
