#1 Sawmill cited for ‘willfully exposing workers to hazards’ after death of 24-year-old 
The U.S. Department of Labor determined that a Georgia sawmill could have prevented a 24-year-old employee from suffering fatal injuries while working with a wood chipper if it had ensured that federal safety regulations were followed.
 

#2 Explosion at Tafisa plant disrupts particleboard operations
An explosion occurred at Tafisa Canada's particleboard facility in Lac-Mégantic on June 14 at around 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. The blast affected one of the two raw particleboard production lines and temporarily knocked production offline. 

#3 Kim Kardashian files motion to kill Judd Foundation lawsuit 
Kim Kardashian allegedly claimed in one of her videos that the La Mansana Table in the image was a genuine Donald Judd creation. Kardashian, and a design firm, were sued by the Foundation, but Kardashian tried to squash the litigation. 

#4 Report: High housing costs drive housing crisis 
High home prices and interest rates are pricing out millions of potential homebuyers, while the number of renters with cost burdens has reached an all-time high. However, a surge in new multifamily rental units is slowing rent growth, and increasing single-family construction is starting to lift for-sale inventories. 

#5 Maine pellet maker fined $151K for violations dating to 2020 
A Sanford, Maine, wood pellet manufacturing facility was fined $151,550 for a string of violations dating back to 2020. The violations included failing to meet testing deadlines, exceeding emissions requirements and failing to keep sufficient records.

#7 Pennsylvania lumber yard catches fire 
Cummings Lumber Company, outside of Troy, Pennsylvania, caught fire in Bradford County just before midnight on June 25. No injuries were reported in the 3-alarm fire. 

#8 Pyramid Mountain Lumber sends last logs through the mill 
Pyramid Mountain Lumber, which has provided jobs for 75 years in Missoula County, Montana, delivered the last load of logs through the mill to be processed on July 2nd.

#9 OSHA proposes heat rule to protect workers 
The Department of Labor has released a proposed rule with the goal of "protecting millions of workers from the significant health risks of extreme heat." The rule would require employers to develop an injury and illness prevention plan to control heat hazards in workplaces.
