MISSOURI CITY, Texas - Amazon will open a 1 million-square-foot fulfillment facility in Texas in early 2021 and hire 500 full-time employees to work there.

The new center will pack and ship bulky and large items - primarily patio furniture, outdoor equipment, and rugs.

“We’re excited to be expanding our network of operations in Missouri City,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment. “We are grateful for the strong support we’ve received from local and state leaders as we broaden our footprint throughout Texas.”

The retail behemoth has a massive presence in Texas, operating fulfillment centers in Dallas, Houston Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Marcos, Coppell, Schertz, and two facilities near the Dallas Fort Worth airport.  A 3.8 million-square-foot warehouse is set to open north of Austin next year.

In May 2017, Amazon decided to venture more deeply into sales of bulkier non-traditional e-commerce items—including furniture, power tools, and home appliances.
