This is the first woodworking project I'm doing on my own, and I'm having some trouble installing a floating desk along the studs. I used a powerful magnet to find the studs, but only one column goes in a straight line so I'm not sure if it's reliable. Also, when I tried to screw in one of my braces, the screw stopped with about 1/2" sticking out. When I asked my dad he said I might need a more powerful drill (I'm a college student so I got a black and decker, the cheapest one I could find). After doing a lot of research, I know I have the right idea but need some help with execution.
