Every Day Is Earth Day for Woodworking Industry
One Goal: To Be the Best in Business

Thursday, April 22, is Earth Day, a day dedicated to improving our environment.

It was in 1970 that approximately 20 million Americans took to the streets to rally for a sustainable environment. The brainchild of former U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI), the effort crossed political lines and garnered support by Democrats and Republicans of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. But although we have come a long way in the last 40 years, we are still facing a host of environmental challenges.

For the woodworking industry, every day is Earth Day. In my opinion, no other industry has been as proactive in helping to ensure a sustainable environment. Examples include proposed regulation for formaldehyde emissions and ongoing efforts in reducing/eliminating VOC emissions in the finishing area. Each day, we hear of more companies doing their part in sustainable manufacturing, including the use of certified woods, recycling efforts and energy conservation methods such as wind turbines, co-generation and biomass.

What are some of the things your company is doing to be more sustainable? Share your tips.
