WPE Lancaster preview video: Northtech iDovetail from RT Machine

MANHEIM, Pa. — RT Machine, a distributor of woodworking equipment based in Hughesville, Pennsylvania, will demonstrate an automated work cell for producing and gluing dovetailed workpieces at Wood Pro Expo Lancaster, Oct. 24-25, at Spooky Nook Sports.

The work cell will consist of the Northtech iDovetail24 dovetailer and the Northtec iGlue450. The demonstrations will be featured in Wood Pro Expo’s popular Running Machine Program on both days of the show.

In addition, RT Machine will showcase the C.R. Onsrud M series CNC router and the C.R. Onsrud 750 SS inverted router.

Northtech Machine

The Northtech iDovetail24 won a Challengers Award at IWF 2022. It is a single-spindle, 3-axis CNC dovetailer with a 24-inch working width. The machine has servo-controlled X, Y and Z positioning that allows for quick processing of more than eight different profile modes. The two zone work station design allows the operator to load one station while profiling the other for higher production capability.

The iDovetail’s interactive touchscreen interface not only shows the operator a step-by-step tutorial, but is the heart of the iDovetail designer. This touchscreen platform provides real-time 3D renderings of eight different profile designs, including mitered, and mortise and tenon joinery. This interface allows the operator to rotate and twist the 3D part for any view, including showing the drawer bottom groove ensuring the correct placement of dovetails on the first part.

Northtech iGlue machine

The Northtech iGlue450 is an automatic dovetail glue application machine that requires no setup between different dovetail designs or part sizes. The operator simply sticks the part in the machine and the iGlue scans and consistently applies glue all in one pass with no mess and no wasted glue. iGlue features auto thickness compensation and is able to apply glue to either the mortise or tenon at the rate of more than 100 dovetails/minute. Additionally, iGlue comes with an automatic water bath sleep mode that keeps the glue tip fresh and ready to go. The machine works with standard PVA white glue and can be used for any material.

iGlue has a working wide to up to 18 inches, a working thickness of ¼-inch to 2 inches, and a work length minimum of 4 inches.

C.R. Onsrud M Series CNC router
