BETHESDA, Md. -- For Mike Steiner, owner and designer at Bethesda Custom Closets & Blinds, every project is an opportunity to blend beauty with purpose. His recent collaboration with Collars & Co., the nationally recognized fashion brand founded by Shark Tank entrepreneur Justin Baer, was no exception.

Tasked with creating a sophisticated, functional custom retail display for Collars & Co.’s pop-up store in Rockville, Maryland, Steiner designed a multi-toned system that reflects the brand’s signature style while prioritizing practicality. The custom wall units span the left side of the store, complemented by a central custom island. The system features Arctic as the primary finish, Galaxy blue lower cabinets with modern doors, and Ash-finished drawer fronts — a palette chosen to harmonize with the Collars & Co. identity.

Glass shelving, adjustable cubbies, and integrated remote-controlled LED lighting create a polished, contemporary display for customers, encouraging interaction while highlighting products with a sense of luxury. The thoughtful layout draws visitors naturally through the space, allowing them to explore merchandise at their own pace. Every element — from the soft-glow lighting to the elegant materials — is designed to enhance visibility and make the shopping experience feel curated and exclusive. Soft-closing cabinetry and discreet drawers provide practical overflow storage for staff, keeping the space clean and uncluttered.

The custom island, finished in ash with a luxurious glass countertop, adds functional versatility to the space. It serves as a point-of-sale counter while also displaying belts and sweaters, with TAG Leather drawer inserts providing a boutique-level presentation for accessories.

For Mike and his team, this project is more than a build — it’s a showcase of how thoughtful, locally crafted design can elevate the retail experience of a nationally known brand, creating a space that is as inviting as it is functional.
