WMH Recalls Wilton Miter Saws

  WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with WMH Tool Group Inc. of Elgin, IL, announced the voluntary recall of about 38,000 Wilton-brand 10-inch Compound Miter Saws, including models with the Laser Line feature with model numbers 99164 and 99192. WMH received four reports of cracked pivot housings, one of which resulted in the separation of the saw blade from the base. No injuries have been reported relating to this hazard.

West Fraser to Buy 13 Lumber Mills from International Paper

  MEMPHIS, TN – International Paper has signed a definitive agreement to sell 13 lumber mills to West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. of Vancouver, BC, for approximately $325 million in cash, subject to certain adjustments. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2007, subject to various closing conditions, including receipt of regulatory controls and other customary conditions.

Lead Paint Hazard Leads to Furniture Recall

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced that The Land of Nod of Northbrook, IL, has issued a voluntary recall of about 2,000 case goods because the furniture contains high levels of lead. No injuries were reported for the furniture imported from Mexico.

Report Gives China a Pass on Currency Manipulation

  WASHINGTON – The Bush Administration continues to find insufficient technical evidence that China is manipulating its currency to gain an unfair trade advantage. The twice annual "Report to Congress on International Economic and Exchange Rate Policies," released by the Treasury Department on Dec. 19, stated that while China has "taken further steps to reform the currency market and renminbi (RMB) flexibility … this increased flexibility is less than is needed.”

Dubai Woodshow Secures Partnership Agreement with Eumabois

DUBAI – Dubai Woodshow 2007, the wood and wood machinery exhibition in the Middle East, will include a comprehensive European line-up, featuring the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers (Eumabois), according to Khaleej Times. Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions, the organizers of the Dubai Woodshow, signed a partnership agreement with Eumabois to jointly promote the Dubai Woodshow.

International Paper to Sell Five Mills to G-P

MEMPHIS, TN – International Paper has agreed to sell five wood products mills to Georgia-Pacific for approximately $237 million. The facilities included in the sale are three plywood and lumber complexes in Camden, TX; Springhill, LA; and Gordon, AR; plus a plywood mill in Corrigan, TX; and an engineered wood products mill in Thornsby, AL. The mills employ approximately 2,400 people.
