"Transitional” was the favorite word used to describe the current hot trend in cabinet styles at the 2008 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, held at Chicago’s McCormick Place, April 11-13. More than 45,000 attendees attended this year’s event, the largest turnout ever, according to show management. Close to 1,000 exhibitors showcased cabinets and related products for the kitchen and bath industry.

This Aristokraft display features the Roxburgh style in maple with a Harvest finish, with oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Several companies showed beadboard-style grooved panels and doors.	Armstrong featured its one-year-old Town & Country line, also featuring grooved panels. It’s in solid maple with a light color paint and Pearl Pewter glaze. Light paint colors were a popular trend at this year’s K/BIS.
Canac said its “coastal kitchen” is “reminiscent of childhood summers,” with cap pulls and other decorative touches. The display features the Chesapeake door in maple with Sandstone and Riverstone finishes — white cabinets are back this year.	Dark finishes continue to be popular, as are doors with wide stiles and rails. This display at Cardell features its Wyndham II door in cherry, with stainless pulls.
DeWils introduced mahogany, noting that it is especially popular in California. It was showcased with a natural finish in this island at the 2008 K/BIS.	There continued to be a strong Chinese presence at this year’s show. This large display area was for GM Cabinet.
Warm finishes and simplified accents were another trends seen throughout the exhibit hall. This example was at DeWils’ booth.	Designers continue to combine different colored finishes in kitchens. This display at Kraftmaid features the Astoria line in maple with Canvas finish and Cocoa glaze; Astoria cherry with a Chocolate finish, and Chadwick maple, also in Canvas with Cocoa glaze.
Contemporary looks, with strong horizontal lies, are popular this year. This display at Kraftmaid features the Capri line with Tiber cherry stain. Other popular looks shown here are the use of glass and stainless steel as accents.	Eco-consciousness continued to be prevalent at this year’s K/BIS. This display at custom cabinetmaker Northstar features bamboo. The company offers several bamboo door styles. Other manufacturers also showed bamboo in their exhibits.
Quality Cabinets showed a clever use of its cabinetry in a Tansu-style under-stair display. It features the Wayfarer door in maple with a Cafe finish. The doors are lightly distressed.	Even entry-level cabinets can have high style, as can be seen at Smart Cabinets’ booth. The line offers special features like 3-, 6- and 9-inch pull-out spice racks, lazy Susans and pull-out trays. The line is solid wood, primarily oak and maple, with MDF drawers.

Other trends shown in this display are the stainless steel and glass doors and accents and the use of simplified mouldings and decorative accents.
