Dan Hummel of Allen Organ Company LLC, Macungie, PA, is a finalist in the 2015 Custom Woodworking Design Portfolio Awards with his project “Curved French Terrace Organ” entered in the Specialty Products category.

Project Description: Custom Curved French Terrace Organ for St. Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly VA. It is a one of kind Oak and Walnut console. It was years in the making. Actual construction took almost a year to complete. The organ is almost 9' wide and weighs more than 1000 lbs when it was completed. Allen Organ VP of Sales performed the dedication concert in September of 2014.

Project Construction Details: Designed utilizing 3D CAD software, a team of craftsmen worked for months completing the case work. The console is made from a blend of solid oak and walnut and custom engineered panels with a solid basswood core. Check out this video at you tube.


Materials Used: Red Oak, Walnut, Basswood, Maple and Poplar Hardwoods. Custom engineered panels with solid butch block style Basswood core.

Equipment and/or Software Used: 3D CAD software used to design the curved terraces.

Thermwood CNC Router, Viet S2 Widebelt Sander, Diehl Moulder and Rip Saw, Challenger Double End Tenoner, North Tech Surfacer and Whirlwind Cut Off Saw.
