Hello everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. We bought a big reclaimed teak dining table which came with some problems such as not having a protective layer on it so everything was staining and the surface was very uneven. In the first photo, you can see how it was looking when we first bought it. I searched a lot and decided to apply tung oil on it to at least protect it from stains and water. It turned to be much uglier than I imagined. Also, different pieces of wood on it became different color. You can see how it looks after I applied tung oil but the photos show the color lighter than it actually is. Another problem is everything looks like leaves a scratch on it. In the third photo, you can see some scratches. Also, I applied the tung oil more than two months ego but still makes the table cloth greasy. Now, I want to get rid of this color/tung oil and make the surface even. (I tried to sand it a little bit to see whether I can get rid of this color. You can see light colored weird area on the side in the second photo) I am thinking to sand the table all over to get rid of the dark color, and sand the very high places on the surface more to get them to bring them down a little bit. I can't sand all of it to bring to the lowest level because it will make the table too thin and I don't to do that. After sanding, I am considering two options 1- Just apply policrylic on it and not to do anything to fix the uneven surface. 2- Apply epoxy on the surface to make it all even and apply polycrilic on it since I don't like the shiny look of epoxy. I need an expert opinion about these options. Do they look like a good idea? Am I missing anything? I am also open to other suggestions that will be durable and not too difficult to do. But it should be something that doesn't darken the color. I like the original color of the table. Thank you so much in advance!
