Gates Lumber Names New President, Executive Vice President

MEMPHIS, TN -- Gates Lumber Co., a manufacturer of windows, doors, custom millwork and more, named Bobby Buzard, president and Ginny Buzard-Nabors, executive vice president, according to The Commercial Appeal. George Buzard, who has served the family-owned business as president since 1985, will now serve as CEO and continue overall company management.

Entries Sought for 2007 Kline Memorial Scholarship

HIGH POINT, NC – Entries are being accepted for the 2007 ASFD David Kline Memorial Scholarship Design Contest. The contest is co-sponsored by Hafele America of Archdale, NC, and the American Society of Furniture Designers. The award honors David Kline, a career furniture designer and past member of ASFD. The contest is open to all students in North America who are currently enrolled in an accredited design program.

Hooker Announces Closing of Wood Furniture Plant

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Hooker Furniture Corp. announced it would close its last U.S. wood furniture manufacturing facility by the end of March, according to Reuters. The company cited increased demand for imported wood and metal furniture. The plant employs approximately 280 workers, or 27 percent of the company’s total staff.

OMNOVA Solutions Reports Fourth Quarter Results

FAIRLAWN, OH – OMNOVA Solutions Inc., a manufacturer of commercial wallcoverings, upholstery fabrics and laminates, reported net income of $17.0 million for the fourth quarter of 2006, compared to net income of $4.1 million for the same period in 2005. Net sales increased $1.3 million, to $176.4 million, for the fourth quarter of 2006 versus $175.1 million for the fourth quarter of 2005.
