AUBURN, Calif. — 34-year-old Haley May Kiick, according to reports by KCRA, was arrested in connection with on suspicion of arson after a lumber mill fire on November 18.
The Grass Valley Emergency Command Center receiving multiple 911 calls for a commercial structure fire in the area of Highway 49. Firefighters arrived to find the last original building of the Cal Ida Lumber Mill, most recently known as California Hardwood Producers, with heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure.
The fire was contained to the original structure, and no injuries have been reported.
Cal Fire/Placer County Fire Department was assisted by Auburn City Fire Department, Newcastle Fire Department, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and American Medical Response.
The Cal-Ida Lumber Mill was one of the largest mills in Placer County, with more than 800 people were employed at the mill during the height of its operations. During the same year the mill began operations, 1947, a fire destroyed a majority of the mill and nearly $8 million worth of lumber. The mill prospered regardless of the damages.
