LAVAL, Québec — Uniboard has announced that the second project of the Val-d'Or Particleboard Plant Modernization Program is underway. The second part of Phase 3 is the construction of a new production hall and the installation of a new continuous 10-foot particleboard press and a new 10-foot finishing line.

In June 2022, Uniboard announced Phase 3 of the Val-d'Or modernization project. Aptly called Project Renaissance, Phase 3 was split into two distinct projects. Phase 3 started with the construction of a new distribution/logistics center which was completed and put into service in August 2023.

“Phase 3 of Uniboard’s Val-d'Or $350 million particleboard modernization project is well on track. Working on a brownfield site with a working mill supplying customers takes a special approach. It is encouraging for the team and our customers to see the progress.“ says James Hogg, president and CEO of Uniboard.

Work on the press foundations and production hall started in the summer of 2023. Containers of the production lines have already been received on-site. The new press line is targeted to come on stream in the 1st Quarter of 2025. The modernized Val d’Or particleboard/TFL facility will be the most advanced particleboard site in North America.

“We are right on time with the last phase of the Val d’Or modernization program,” says Hogg. “What will set Val d’Or apart from other North American particleboard facilities is not just the latest state-of-the-art equipment, but the expertise and knowledge of our people who will operate the facility, our proven quality northern fiber supply, and our commitment to customer service to name a few."
