Jasper Group celebrates 150 years of manufacturing in Jasper

JASPER, Ind. — The Jasper Group is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2026, marking a century and a half of furniture manufacturing in Jasper.

The Jasper Group is an Indiana-based furniture manufacturer and the parent company of JSI and Klem. It traces its roots back to 1876, it employs roughly 1,000 workers across 2.3 million square feet of manufacturing facilities in Dubois and Orange counties, supplying high-quality wood furniture for corporate, public, and hospitality spaces.

Jasper Seating Company Inc., part of the Jasper Group, traces its origins to 1876, when the company acquired one of the first U.S. patents in Indiana’s fledgling furniture industry with the introduction of its roll-top desk. In 1890, the Jasper Desk Company (now under the Jasper Group) acquired the first patent ever issued to an operating plant in the United States. The patent was for a dust-free "roll curtain" used on roll-top desks to protect typewriters and office supplies from dust and debris.

Throughout the year, Jasper Group will host a series of celebrations and initiatives designed to celebrate the people who helped shape it along the way.

The 150th anniversary celebration is scheduled for this fall and will bring together employees, retirees, families, customers, and community members.

As Jasper Group looks ahead, their purpose is to continue investing in the growth of their employees while cultivating new opportunities for young people entering the workforce. The company hopes the next generation will not only inherit a business, but a community where meaningful work, innovation, and opportunity continue to thrive.

"For nearly 150 years, we’ve worked hard to create and preserve the legacy that is Jasper Group for the next generation," the company said on its website. "We plan to leave this world a little better than we found it.""
