AWI invites comments on proposed American National Standards

POTOMAC FALLS, VA — The Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) has opened a 45-day Public Comment Period for three proposed new American National Standards (ANS): AWI 0642 – Wood Paneling;  AWI 1235 – Specialty Casework;  AWI 0622.0646 – Millwork & Wood Trim; and one revised draft standard, AWI 0620 – Finish Carpentry/Installation.

The Public Comment periods for the four standards mentioned above will be open for feedback until closing on July 1, 2024. During the Public Comment period for these standards, anyone has the opportunity to review the draft standard, share their concerns or comments, and provide their solutions to AWI for review by AWI Standards Staff and the AWI Technical Committee.

During the Public Comment Period commentary must be submitted through the Public Comment Form (accessible at the links above) in accordance with AWI’s record-keeping policies as an ANSI-accredited Standards Developer Organization, ensuring compliance with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Commentary on the standard submitted outside of this format will not be considered by the AWI Technical Committee.

The Public Comment Forms are solely for providing feedback and/or commentary on the proposed standard. Any comments regarding grammar, formatting, or style do not affect the standard's usage; therefore, please email any editorial issues directly to [email protected] or [email protected]

At the close of the Public Comment period, the AWI Standards Staff and the AWI Technical Committee will review any concerns and comments. They will provide detailed written responses accepting or rejecting proposed solutions, along with an explanation. A letter of disposition will be sent to address all concerns in an attempt to resolve them.

Through AWI’s ANSI-approved Policies and Procedures, the AWI Technical Committee is continuing to develop the multi-section suite of standards that harmonize with other relevant ANSI industry standards. By doing so, differing interpretations and conflicts surrounding the standards are minimized.
