Fire hits wood power plant

Utility firm Public Service of New Hampshire told local media that the conveyors that deliver wood chips at its Schiller Station in Portsmouth caught fire. The generator, installed in 1952, was converted in 2006 to generate 50 megawatts of electricity from clean wood chips.

Pfleiderer calculating 2010 loss

NUEMARKT, GERMANY -- Pfleiderer AG, an international producer of wood composite panels and related products, said it knows it lost money despite growing revenues by 8% in 2010, but has not completed a final calculation to pinpoint how much.

Wood-chip plant gets $11M more funding

Tree trimmings, wood chips and reclaimed urban lumber will fuel a generator being developed by the University of British Columbia. Governmental agencies in Canada granted $11.2 million in added funding for the project, which is the first North American project constructed with cross laminated timber.
