Slatted shelfing - bracket to reduce saggin

Hi,

So I am planning on building slatted shelfing in my airing cupboard above my boiler. I want to run a bracket on both sides and one running the length at the back

The length of these shelves will be 100cm. Now I've been told that I should provide support every 60cm. My question is, does attaching a support piece of wood underneath the slats act as adequate support. I have no idea what this is called. But the parallel bit of wood you screw in underneath the slats running across. I am sure it has a name.

Will this *whatever its called* provide adequate support or will I need to install a proper supportive bracket?
