Hardware Trends: Function Meets Form

Grass VionaroGrass Among the hardware trends to be seen at the interzum fair will be the damping or electrification of drawers, pull-outs and flaps, according to show management. The goal: to make working in the kitchen and other rooms more quieter, comfortable and ergonomic, by introducing practical solutions for cabinets, furniture and casegoods.

What follows are some of the hardware items on display, plus products already available in the U.S. marketplace.

Grass America says the new Vionaro drawer system combines an extremely slender drawer side design with the Dynapro drawer slide technology. Featuring 3-D adjustability, the slide system has a load capacity of up to 132 lbs with synchronized movement throughout. (800) 334-3512, GrassUSA.com

Hafele offers the Free family of hingeless flap fittings. Utilizing the soft-close feature, the company says the Free 3677 for one-piece flaps will lock in any position, and has an opening angle of 90 or 100 degrees. CompX Timberline says its new deadbolt cylinder bodies with a standard key captive feature, the CB-280-KC and CB-290-KC, are designed to prevent the user from removing the key while in the unlocked position. (847) 752-2600, Compx.com/timberline

Tenn-Tex Plastics’ Quik-TRAY rollout system is now available in 1, 1-1/4 and 2-in. thicknesses in the standard 20-in. length in gray, metallic and black finishes. Quik-TRAY is made from ABS polymer. (800) TENNTEX, TennTex.com

Blum’s TANDEM plus BLUMOTION runners have new features including 4-D adjustment, increased load capacity and better side stability, along with smooth running action and soft close. Accuride’s 7950 and 7957 heavy-duty slides offer an alternative for 0.75-in. side space projects and accommodate drawers up to 42-in. wide. Hettich says its Sensys hinge system features an integrated soft-closing mechanism for convenience in shutting hinged doors. Self-closing from a uniquely wide angle and with a shallow cup depth, Sensys can be used for a variety of applications. Designed for use with all Rev-A-Shelf Tip-Out trays, the soft-close piston eliminates slamming and the 50-degree opening allows for complete accessibility to items stored within. Doug Mockett & Co. introduces a 2-port USB charger with the ability to charge all mobile devices and tablets. A&M Hardware has added concealed brackets to its line, for use with computer workstations, garage shelving, ADA stations, floating islands, etc. Brackets are offered with or without upper extension and with 9-, 12-, 18- and 24-in. support arms. Ideal for areas with limited space in front, the hinges can be installed flush with the surrounding cabinetry or wall and will stop in any position, the company says.
