Saw of the Month: 15-inch BandsawThe new PM1500 15-inch bandsaw from Powermatic is designed as a little brother to its 18-inch version. “A full 14 inch of resaw height and 14½ inches of blade-to-frame width, create a class of its own,” says Joan Duvall, Powermatic’s product manager.

It is intended for resawing and ripping lumber to size, cut curves for cabinetry or furniture making, create decorative scrollwork or cut joints such as tenons and dovetails. The bandsaw is powerful enough for hardwoods driven by a 3HP, 230V motor.

The PM1500 bandsaw’s has a 21½ x 16-inch cast iron table, 40 inches above the floor, that tilts 45° to the right and 10° left, using a cast-iron handwheel. A standard miter slot is provided, and a miter gauge with a pivoting head with stops at 45 and 90° left/right.

It features fully adjustable fence, multi-step blade tensioning, and precision guide and thrust bearings. Weighing 394 pounds, its cast iron table and trunnion assembly offers sufficient rigidity for handling heavy work pieces.
