2014 Wood Tech Summit Leadership Conference
The 2014 Wood Tech Summit Leadership Conference will be held October. 9-10 at the Woodworking Centre of Ontario at Conestoga College, Kitchener, ON.
The event is being organized under the auspices of the Woodworking Centre of Ontario at Conestoga College, the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing at the University of British Columbia, the Wood Manufacturing Council (WMC), the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Lignum Consulting, Vance Communications Canada and Woodworking Network.
In addition, the Bluewater Wood Alliance and the Canadian Kitchen Cabinet Association have pledged their support for the event.
Previous Wood Tech Summits were held at at the University of British Columbia in October 2012 and immediately before the 2013 Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS) last October. This year's event will dovetail with the world-famous 10-day Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, the largest annual Bavarian Festival outside of Germany.
Wood Tech Summit will feature separate educational tracks for professional woodworkers and high school woodworking instructors, guidance counselors and students.
The professional woodworking track will focus on a wide list of potential topics including increasing raw material yields, improving process flow, achieving high-quality green finishes, boosting productivity, exporting wood products, getting more from nesting, choosing the right tool for the job, developing a winning production team, hiring and training new employees, how to break into new product markets, etc.
The vocational woodworking track will focus on career opportunities for high school and college students in the wood products industry.
Wood Tech Summit features table top displays and a networking reception.
Attendees will have the option to participate in tours Friday, Oct. 10, including to George Guenzler & Sons, a high-tech wood turning and component facility, and the very well equipped, Woodworking Centre at Conestoga College, The 50,000-square-foot Woodworking Centre ranks in the Top 4 in the world as a training instituion.
