Tischerlei-Fine Woodworking To Open in Salina Airport Center

Salina, Kan - Tischlerei - Fine Woodworking is nearing the end of phase 1 construction activities in preparation for grand opening of the custom cabinetry and millwork company. Tischlerei, which roughly translates to woodworking shop in German, specializes in residential and commercial applications and is well known for monumental architectural millwork projects throughout the world.

The new operation will be housed in nearly 44,000 square feet of leased space, which was formally in the Salina headquarters building of Hawker Beechcraft, according to Tim Rogers, A.A.E, Executive Director of the Salina Airport Authority, which approved the lease in June of this year.

"The Salina Airport Authority is very pleased to have this new business locate in the Salina Regional Airport Industrial Center," Rogers said. "Tischlerei - Fine Woodworking is in the process of hiring skilled woodworkers for the new jobs it is bringing to town and we are delighted that the company has chosen Salina as the location for this business."

The project is generating about 50 construction jobs while preparations are underway for the opening and Tischlerei - Fine Woodworking is accepting applications. Tischlerei - Fine Woodworking is planning to initially hire 12-15 employees in its Salina operation. Applicants are encouraged to contact [email protected] or (785) 404-3322 for an appointment, said Manager Olaf Gerhardt.

Gerhardt said, "We are proud to be part of the Salina community and thankful to our entire project team, the Salina Airport Authority, City of Salina, Saline County, and Salina Area Chamber of Commerce which have all worked hard to make this happen."

"After months of preparation and construction everybody at Tischlerei - Fine Woodworking is excited to start up production," Gerhardt added. "It just takes a lot of planning, brainstorming and time to create the perfect setting for our wood products and professional appliances. Our number one priority is to get product to our clients to ensure their projects to stay on schedule. We are very fortunate to have a healthy backlog and our dealers have a positive outlook for the future."

A recent study by the Center for Economic Development and Business Research at Wichita State University found that nearly 8,700 jobs and more than $280 million in payroll were due to business activity at the Salina Regional Airport and Airport Industrial Center.

More than 70 businesses directly employ more than 4,000. Direct one-year payroll earnings amount to more than $130.4 million while total payroll earnings amount to almost $284 million. As a result of this business activity, Salina gained nearly $1.8 million and Saline County gained close to $1.4 million in tax revenues in 2010.

SAA LogoThe Salina Airport Authority is a body corporate and politic. The Authority was created by the City of Salina in April 1965 pursuant to the authority granted to the City of Salina by the surplus property and public airport authority act of the State of Kansas. The Authority is managed and controlled by a five-member Board of Directors appointed by the Salina City Commission.

The Salina Airport Authority is home to the Salina Regional Airport, the Salina Aviation Service Center and the Salina Airport Industrial Center. The Salina Regional Airport is the only commercial service airport serving Salina/Saline County and the 22-county area, which comprises North Central Kansas. The airport also services the corporate, business, private aviation and flight training needs of industry, business and individuals in the area.
