Airstream Unveils 'Land Yacht' Concept Trailer

Jackson Center, OH – Airstream, manufacturer of the world’s most iconic traveltrailers, unveiled the company’s newest luxury concept trailer, the ‘Airstream Land Yacht’, during the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Ky. Nov. 27. The Land Yacht is the product of an international collaboration between Airstream, Tecnoform S.p.A., maker of fine cabinetry and the design studio of Officinia Italiana Design. The resulting interior is truly yacht-like and incorporates elements from the world’s finest luxury watercraft.

The Airstream Land Yacht’s contemporary look was created by Tecnoform’s engineering department in partnership with Mauro Micheli, the long-time designer for Riva Yachts. Its unique floor plan has a number of carefully placed design elements that create a sleek and sophisticated look in the cabin. The unit, capable of sleeping up to five people, has a bedroom in the front, a bathroom amidships and a rear social space, which includes a galley that can be hidden when not in use. The Land Yacht’s powered bed lift reveals access to hidden storage. The unit features three power awnings, with remote control. The quiet ducted air system provides powerful air conditioning to meet internal climate preferences of the user.

The 28’ Airstream Land Yacht Concept trailer is crafted with quality materials and equipment throughout, including high-luster teak and white wood inlay boat-deck flooring, LED panel lighting elements, Corian® solid surfaces and plush Ultraleather®.

“It’s part of the cultural imperative at Airstream that we continue to challenge ourselves in terms of what our travel trailers can be, stretching the brand and perceptions of it,” said Airstream CEO and President, Bob Wheeler. “The Land Yacht Concept represents the latest effort in that direction. We are very grateful for the visionary design work provided by Tecnoform and Officina Italiana Design on this project, which, while beautiful in its own right, has a wonderful historical connection with our founder

Wally Byam's love of all things nautical.” Wally Byam’s love for boats led him to create a parallel experience of adventure travel on land, through his legendary Airstream trailers. Airstream’s early models had nautical names including Clipper, Liner, Wee Wind and the Flying Cloud. In Byam’s later years, he designed and commissioned a custom sailing yacht called the Caravan, and while he did see the finished product, he never had the chance to pilot the ship around the world as planned.
