Biosurveillance Efforts Aim to Protect Canadian Forestry Industry

A $2.43 million research project will develop DNA biosurveillance tools to detect invasive species such as the Asian gypsy moth and a plant pathogen that causes Sudden Oak Death and protect Canada's forestry and lumber industries.

The slow pace of recovery in the housing construction market is a drag on growth in remodeling, too, according to figures from the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity from the Remodeling Futures Program at Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies.

Wood moulding manufacturer Metrie says it will close Monroe, WA plant, laying off 54 employees, and moving the work to another of its locations in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
