Haworth Acquires Strategic Interest in AIS

HOLLAND, MI - Contract furniture manufacturer Haworth Inc. has acquired a strategic interest in AIS, a Hudson, MA-based office furniture maker.

The news was reported Aug. 23 by MLive.com. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

As reported on MLive, the liaison with AIS will broaden the network of product offerings by Haworth dealers to small and mid-size businesses.

“We currently focus on that market directly, through our ‘Start-It-Up’ program, and indirectly through our alliances with Groupe Lacasse, United Chair, and now AIS,” Haworth Vice President of Global Sales Todd James, said in a statement on MLive.

Rob Lazarus of AIS also stated to the media, “The cooperation with Haworth and our relationship with our dealers and agents will enable us to continue on our successful growth path.”

Founded in 1989, AIS employs 332 people. The company has more than 500,000 square feet of manufacturing space and operations at six locations.

Founded in 1948 and based in Holland, MI, Haworth Inc. specializes in the design and manufacture of office furniture and workspaces, including wood casegoods, systems furniture, movable walls, seating, raised access floors and storage systems. Family-owned and privately held, the company sells its products in more than 120 countries through a global network of 600 dealers. 2011 net sales were $1.38 billion.
