DBS Acquired by States Industries States Industries, manufacturer of hardwood plywood, specialty panel products and custom manufactured wood components, acquired 60-employee Drawer Box Specialties.

DBS, Orange, CA, founded in 1987, manufactures custom drawer boxes in a wide variety of substrates from melamine to exotic hardwoods. Options include FSC and NAUF certified materials; and corner constructions that include English and French dovetails, doweled, and nailed boxes.

States’ Industries president Mike Taylor called the addition of DBS a strategic extension of State’s existing value-added components business.

“DBS has a great brand franchise that we think will be a perfect complement to our business,” he says. “By recapitalizing the company and providing better access to the entire North American market through our network of distributors, we see significant upside.”

DBS president Cathy Blankenship will continue to manage the business unit for States Industries; most of the management and sales team remains in Orange. “We are very pleased with the team that is in place and their knowledge of the business,” Taylor says.

States Industries’ existing 200,000 sq.ft. Eugene, OR operation includes a components division meeting stringent seven-day lead time for programmed customer business, and offering point-to-point machining that can use any customer drawing to deliver finished product.

States’ components plant manager Donnie Graves says, “The investments made here, in addition to the DBS acquisition in California, allows us to really excel at being a complete components supplier.”

States Industries, founded in Eugene, OR in 1966, is also well known for its Appleply panel. statesind.com
