NEW YORK – Terry Crews, world renowned actor, former NFL player, and current star on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has ventured into the world of furniture design – unveiling his first collection during the recent International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York.

Created with New York furniture company Bernhardt Design, Crews’ idea for the collection was the modernization of ancient Egypt.

"My first sketches were absolutely crazy, because I didn't really have any furniture design training, but what I discovered was that what my furniture needed was a story, a narrative," Crews told CNN in an interview.

The four-piece collection features the sleek, contemporary Ibis sofa; Float tables; Aire benches, and a unique Lilypad chair with ottoman, which is designed to look like it’s floating.

Each piece is customizable with options including American walnut, polished or matte black stainless steel, and Bernhardt’s leathers and textiles.

Crews has a background as an artist – previously working as a courtroom sketch artist in Flint, Michigan. He would also create portraits of his former NFL teammates and sell them for $5,000 a piece.

In addition to Crews’ collection, Bernhardt Design unveiled a snap-together furniture line from Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia at ICFF.
