FCA’s entry in the 2013 Custom Woodworking Design Portfolio competition is the 60,000 square foot Ambulatory Surgery Center at Stanford University Medical Center, which includes twelve operating rooms, three interventional radiology rooms, and support spaces. The design of this contemporary outpatient clinic moves away from the traditional healthcare facility design and focuses on a warmer hospitality feel through the use of wood paneling and lighting for intuitive wayfinding. Mimicking the human heartbeat, three dimensional prominences in the cherry wall paneling establish a soothing rhythm and calm pace as the visitor enters the space.
