WASHINGTON -- Approximately 8,000 drop-side cribs imported by J.C. Penney Purchasing Corp. of Plano, TX, have been recalled.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the drop-side rails can malfunction, detach or unexpectedly fall down, potentially creating an entrapment hazard. Nine drop-side rail malfunctions have been reported, including one in which a child sustained minor abrasions to the arm.

The wood cribs were manufactured by Yu Wei Co. Ltd. of Tapei, Taiwan. They were sold in antique white, pecan and dark cherry through J.C. Penney's catalog and website between January 2006 and December 2010 for between $300 and $450.

Consumers are urged to stop using the cribs until they receive and install a free immobilizer kit offered by Yu Wei.
