TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Carter Oosterhouse, carpenter turned star of HGTV programs Trading Spaces, Rowhouse Showdown and Million Dollar Rooms, and his brother, Todd Oosterhouse, a general contractor, are opening a vineyard near their Traverse City, MI hometown, constructing a 16,500-square foot winery at its center.

Todd, who is leading construction of the facility, and Carter, say they carefully selected features according to their own design aesthetic.

While the northwest Michigan climate is known for outstanding grape production during long, hot summers, it is also known for extreme winters with powerful winds and heavy snowdrifts, which is why the brothers were careful in selecting building products for their new facility.

While building the winery, Carter and Todd chose energy-efficient features including insulated concreted forms (ICFs) and two-by six framing construction. They also selected Pella Architect Series doors and Energy Star-certified Pella Impervia fiberglass windows with double-pane insulating glass.

"I appreciate the quality of products assembled in America,"Carter says, including "the eight-foot tall Pella Architect Series doors made in Iowa, and the rich walnut Pella entry door crafted in Texas that add so much character."

In addition to keeping a large, open tasting room and company headquarters warm during the winter, the windows are also designed to reduce heat transmission in the summer.

The winery also features a patio with wood-burning fire pits and seating for overlooking the 20 acres of wine grapes.

"We want guests to come in and stay awhile, enjoy fine Bonobo wines from our tasting room, and relax with their group in one of the many private spaces we've created, featuring wing back chairs, sofas and more," Carter says.
