IKEA to use 3D printers to repair/recycle old furniture

Scandinavian furniture giant IKEA is testing a program to get customers to bring in their old furniture, both IKEA and other brands, and rewarding them with vouchers for new purchases. IKEA stores in France and Belgium accept the vouchers, and the old furniture is then recycled or re-sold.

Robust Desktop CNC Can Be Used by Anyone

MakersDream, a startup from Venice, Italy has launched Evo-One, a CNC mill that can be used on a desktop. Fundraising the project on Kickstarter, the developers, who previously launched the InventOne 3D printer, say keeping 3D and CNC separate is a better approach to engineering and operation.

Thermwood To Combine 3D Additive Printing and CNC Machining

CNC manufacturer Thermwood Corp. says it is developing a 3D additive manufacturing system, that is capable of making large carbon graphite reinforced composite thermoplastic components. It uses a “near net shape” approach with a large extruder, mounted to the machine, heats, melts and “prints” carbon graphite filled thermoplastic material to create a structure which is then five-axis machined to its final net shape.
