WASHINGTON — Furniture and home furnishings sales grew modestly in April, reflecting the overall picture for retail, according to advance estimates from the Commerce Department. But even with slow growth, these numbers remain well ahead of the 2021 pace, according to reports.

For the month, furniture and home furnishings stores reported adjusted sales of $12.173 billion, up 0.7% from $12.094 billion in March. This number is also 0.8% higher than the $12.072 billion in April 2021, according to a Furniture Today report

The retail and food services sector as a whole recorded $677.711 billion in April, up 0.9% from $671.648 billion in March. However, with sales of furniture and home furnishings up only slightly year-over-year, the overall retail picture is ahead of the 2021 pace, posting an 8.2% gain from $626.430 billion last year.
